Our Story
livemigrations
Live Migrations invites the world to slow down and witness one of nature's greatest journeys as it unfolds in real time. Our inaugural project, The Great Sockeye Migration, follows millions of wild salmon returning from the Pacific Ocean to the rivers of Bristol Bay, Alaska, where they complete one of the most remarkable migrations on Earth. Starting August 19th, through a network of remote cameras, viewers can experience this extraordinary event exactly as it happens—without narration, scripts, or editing. Sometimes the river teems with life. Sometimes nothing happens at all. Both are part of the story. Inspired by Sweden's internationally celebrated Great Moose Migration, Live Migrations is founded on a simple belief: that paying attention to the natural world deepens our understanding of it. By sharing these migrations live, we hope to inspire curiosity, celebrate the remarkable ecology of wild salmon, honor the enduring relationship between salmon and Alaska Native communities, and foster a greater appreciation for the wild places that make these journeys possible.
